My name is alex briggs and I grew up in the southern maine town of Pownal, I left the state for a few years to study at McGill University in Montreal but returned to finish my degree at the University of Maine.

I plan to work in Maine my whole life, though I may roam a bit across the rest of the Northeast from time to time. I'm drawn to build a sustainable living system that I can rely on to support my family and myself indefinitely, and through Permaculture courses that I've taken and my engineering degree I've gained the book learning I need to do that. I have hands on experience with building low-maintenance gardens (swales with weed suppression) and am now travelling (mostly in Maine) gaining more experience with wood and metal working, and plan to start building methane digesters over the summer

I'm also a social activist, but am now mostly interested in building alternatives, as i feel that it is the only way to motivate change. I guess my main interests in this direction are building  a grassroots media network, an empowered elder living center, and a open and "free" technical institute to share the skills I've learned accessibly.
